String Them Up Kindle Edition
When Barker Davis stumbles into Hollow Hills one fateful day, drenched in blood from head to toe, the tight-knit community hastily points fingers at the reclusive toymaker dwelling deep within the ominous woods nearby. However, the arrest of the toymaker uncovers a tangle of questions rather than any concrete answers.
As the bloodshed continues in this horror mystery, the town teeters on the brink of madness. Their nightmare has only just begun.
Now, it falls upon Sinclair Redman to navigate this tapestry of horror, pulling the strings of truth and deception to unearth the chilling secrets hidden within Hollow Hills. Only by unlocking these grim mysteries can he hope to put an end to the rising body count that threatens to spiral out of control.
In this fast-paced small-town horror novel, fans of iconic horror entities like Annabelle and Chucky will be drawn into a fast-paced, nightmarish world that will keep them on the edge of their seats. A must-read for aficionados of chilling tales by authors such as Grady Hendrix, Josh Malerman, Jonathan Janz, and Todd Keisling's hair-raising Devil's Creek.

About the authors
William Sterling is an independent author, screenwriter, editor, and...actor? ::shrugs:: His books tend to play in the realms of "popcorn flick horror" with ridiculous monsters, characters who make series of stupid decisions, and soft spots for absurd third act set pieces.
Since its founding in August 2012, Crystal Lake Publishing has quickly become one of the world’s leading publishers of Dark Fiction and Horror books in print, eBook, and audio formats.
While we strive to present only the highest quality fiction and entertainment, we also endeavour to support authors along their writing journey. We offer our time and experience in non-fiction projects, as well as author mentoring and services, at competitive prices.
With several Bram Stoker Award wins and many other wins and nominations, Crystal Lake Publishing puts integrity, honor, and respect at the forefront of our publishing operations.
We strive for each book and outreach program we spearhead to not only entertain and touch or comment on issues that affect our readers, but also to strengthen and support the Dark Fiction field and its authors.
Not only do we find and publish authors we believe are destined for greatness, but we strive to work with men and woman who endeavour to be decent human beings who care more for others than themselves, while still being hard working, driven, and passionate artists and storytellers.
Crystal Lake Publishing is and will always be a beacon of what passion and dedication, combined with overwhelming teamwork and respect, can accomplish. We endeavour to know each and every one of our readers, while building personal relationships with our authors, reviewers, bloggers, podcasters, bookstores, and libraries.
We will be as trustworthy, forthright, and transparent as any business can be, while also keeping most of the headaches away from our authors, since it’s our job to solve the problems so they can stay in a creative mind. Which of course also means paying our authors.
We do not just publish books, we present to you worlds within your world, doors within your mind, from talented authors who sacrifice so much for a moment of your time.
There are some amazing small presses out there, and through collaboration and open forums we will continue to support other presses in the goal of helping authors and showing the world what quality small presses are capable of accomplishing. No one wins when a small press goes down, so we will always be there to support hardworking, legitimate presses and their authors. We don’t see Crystal Lake as the best press out there, but we will always strive to be the best, strive to be the most interactive and grateful, and even blessed press around. No matter what happens over time, we will also take our mission very seriously while appreciating where we are and enjoying the journey.
What do we offer our authors that they can’t do for themselves through self-publishing?
We are big supporters of self-publishing (especially hybrid publishing), if done with care, patience, and planning. However, not every author has the time or inclination to do market research, advertise, and set up book launch strategies. Although a lot of authors are successful in doing it all, strong small presses will always be there for the authors who just want to do what they do best: write.
What we offer is experience, industry knowledge, contacts and trust built up over years. And due to our strong brand and trusting fanbase, every Crystal Lake Publishing book comes with weight of respect. In time our fans begin to trust our judgment and will try a new author purely based on our support of said author.
To date we’ve published around 100 books, and with each launch we strive to fine-tune our approach, learn from our mistakes, and increase our reach. We continue to assure our authors that we’re here for them and that we’ll carry the weight of the launch and dealing with third parties while they focus on their strengths—be it writing, interviews, blogs, signings, etc.
We also offer several mentoring packages to authors that include knowledge and skills they can use in both traditional and self-publishing endeavours.
We look forward to launching many new careers.
This is what we believe in. What we stand for. This will be our legacy.
Welcome to Crystal Lake Publishing—Tales from the Darkest Depths.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2023Creepy dolls are one of my least favorite horror tropes but this book was fantastic. It helped that the dolls don’t really appear until the third act. What we get is a slow burn mystery filled with black magic dread building up to an explosive conclusion. As with all great books, the characters are what make this story resonate. I loved Sinclair and his journey kept me tearing through the pages to find out what would happen to him. Sterling does a stellar job at getting us inside Sinclair’s head so we really understand him and his anguish, as well as providing witty asides that we can all relate to. The themes all TIE TOGETHER (do I get bonus points for this pun?) nicely in a neat little bow and there are lines of poignant prose from this book that have profound things to say about the human condition and that’ll stick with me. This is Sterling at his best.

Not enough puppets or demon dolls for my liking.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 25, 2023Just when I thought I might know where this was going, another twist was thrown in. I love how this author always manages to keep me on my toes. In this book, we get the William Sterling signatures of quick witted characters, dialogue that gaslights the characters into gaslighting YOU that everything is fine, and creative, gruesome, grit-your-teeth kills.
It starts with a troubled main character who is just trying to survive despite everything the world is throwing at him, and quickly spirals into hell freezing over in a small town. The build of the main character from the beginning drew me in; not only to care about him and his journey, but root for him despite all the times I wanted to yell through the book at him for making questionable choices. This story had so many pieces to the puzzle I don't understand how it was managed to be packed into a 200 page book. It has the quaint town setting, a character fighting his own demons, every creepy doll-like thing you can imagine, a haunted house (?), political corruption, peacocks, and about a million other things I won't spoil for you.
I will happily read anything this author writes because it is always so imaginative and is fun (read: horrifying) to be on the ride he creates.
This book certainly did its job considering I had a nightmare after finishing it which involved being blockaded inside my home by puppets - Happy reading!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2023We are not supposed to judge a book by its cover, which is solid advice. However, this story is even more creepy than the cover. The author takes a well written main character and throws him into an old but great trope: a seemingly perfect small town. Then all hell breaks loose. It's the horror version of Pleasantville that we all wanted!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2024This was an interesting read, and one I very much enjoyed. Sinclair was looking for a fresh start in a small town. It appeared to be like any other small town which was captured very well. It had some creepy dolls, revenge, a small town, and some secrets that may have been better to stay buried. I loved how it ended too. It was definitely a little weird, but a really good story.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2023Sterling sinks his hooks into you from the start, then reels you into this creepy small town tale until he yanks the strings on one gruesome set piece after another. A brisk, brutal read.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2023The cover of this book really caught my eye & then the book description really pulled me in.
This is my first time reading anything by this author. Overall, the book wasn't bad but on that same note the horror part / killers weren't all that surprising. That whole part has been done many times before in books & even movies. So, it wasn't really shocking, scary or original.
The book for the most part was predictable, with not a whole lot of thrills & chills type of stuff.
I really wish the author had went into more details on what actually happened to Sinclair Redford's wife (Claire) & son (Max). It was mentioned but I needed more. I feel like a flashback type of scene for the day they died would of been beneficial to the book to get a real feel for how Sinclair was feeling over the tragedy / the loss. Why wasn't he there? Who found them? What cause their deaths? I needed details, not just the glossed over version.
The book starts out with Sinclair arriving at his new house in Hollow Hills. He's struggling with his grief over the loss of his family & what seems to be depression. It was like he was trying to run away from that pain but then realized that where ever he went that pain, that grief was still going to be there. A new house in a new location wasn't going to change that.
Sinclair has a new job as well, working as a Sheriff's Deputy for his old friend Johnny. Johnny is the Sheriff. As Johnny takes Sinclair around town showing him different places & introducing him to the residents there. Sinclair notices that something just doesn't seem / feel right about this whole town & some of the people in it.
